Brighton le Sands

Swim Report

Sat swim report 13th April 2013 Another Saturday swim and another set of firsts. The best first for a while was a great week of weather which meant the water was perfectly clear to go and swim in, so we headed off to Brighton Le Sands for a 7am start for a 4-6 hour swim. And what a gorgeous day it was. 25 degrees out and 20-22 degrees in the water, flat with hardly any wind.

The course was set for a 3km up and back or a 6km total up and back. 17 swimmers hit the water at 7:15 and off they went with Vlad , Sonny and Peter keeping watch from the surf skis. I minded the bags and kept track of their progress. Everyone did at least 6km. Dean who is doing south head had previously only ever done 5km and he did 9 so a first for him, Anna D and John C backed up from last weeks 10km and did another 10, Fi, Karl, Nico also backed up from the 100 x 100with a 9km swim. John Jand Lochie stayed in for over 5 hours, Rach got the 6 hours done and Tori and Marty swam for just over 7 1/2 hrs, with a tough headwind for the last three hours. These 2 got 24kms done.

This was Marty's longest swim ever and perfect for his channel swim later in the year. You should have seen the waiters face when we ordered at 3 course meal at 330 in the afternoon.

Great swims from everybody and great support from Viki, Shimmi, Fredo, Vlad, Sonny, Peter and Darrin.

Brighton Le Sands, Botany Bay

Brighton Le Sands

Brighton-Le Sands Beach occupies the next 1.5 km of shore.
It is popular for many water sports such as swimming and windsurfing.
However it is a place where jetskis are allowed. Therefore the place is best for openwater swimming outside the high season.
